Persecution of Crimean Tatars continues

Representatives of the Russian Federal Security Service detained 5 Crimean Tatars during 3 and 4 September.

iDemocracy informs so with the reference to the Crimean Human Rights Group. After raids Eldar Odamanov, Aziz Akhmetov, Asan Akhmetov, Shevket Useinov and Deputy Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis Nariman Dhezlal were arrested.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed a protest against illegal persecution of Crimean Tatars with noting that it viewed this as “punitive raid against Majlis representatives and as a punishment for having taken part in the inaugural summit of the Crimea Platform of 23 August as well as another repressions on the part of the Russian Federation aimed at intimidating the Crimean Tatar peoples and displacing them from the temporary occupied territories”.

The US Department of State has also supported Crimean Tatars who have been illegally detained..

«The United States strongly condemns the September 4 detention of the Deputy Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, Nariman Dhezlal, and at least 45 other Crimean Tatars by Russian occupation authorities in Crimea. We call on the Russian occupation authorities to release them immediately»
