The progress of democratic reforms in Ukraine has led to advancements of the country’s positions in international ratings. For instance, Ukraine does not belong to countries with incomplete democracy any more. It is among mid-range performing democracies now.
iDemocracy informs so with the reference to the report by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance «The Global State of Democracy 2021: Building Resilience in a Pandemic Era»
«More countries than ever are suffering from ‘democratic erosion’ (decline in democratic quality). The number of countries undergoing ‘democratic backsliding’ has never been as high as in the last decade, and includes regional geopolitical and economic powers such as Brazil, India and the United States»,– the report says.
It is indicated that Ukraine experienced advancement of parliament effectiveness in 2020 that enables to present it as an example of how legislators can increase their effectiveness and promote democratization.
«Parliamentary capacity has been one of the bright spots in Ukraine’s democratic growth. A combination of Ukrainian political will and international support has enabled the country to make significant advances»,– summarises the report by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance.
